The Jeff Davis Parish Tourism Commission approved the replacement of a derelict filtration well at the 1-10 Park in Jennings, with plans from the City of Jennings to then move forward stocking the pond with new bream and bass.
The Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, in conjunction with Wreaths Across America, honored the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces for the holiday season by placing wreaths on graves across the cemetery.
Residents from Jennings and the surrounding area are invited to get into the Christmas spirit on Saturday.
WELSH — Local farmer and agriculture personnel will have an opportunity to gain the latest information on many important crop and business topics as the LSU AgCenter is hosting an upcoming Annual Southwest Louisiana Rice, Soybean and Crawfish Production Clinic. The event will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Welsh Community Center, located at 101 Palmer St. in Welsh, with registration starting prior to the program at 7:30 a.m. LSU AgCenter Extension Agent Jimmy Meaux said many agricultural topics will be covered including the latest news on product and production outlooks, ag-specific scientific and technological advancements, business management strategies, programs for controlling insects and marketing investment futures.

(AP) — President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to block states from regulating artificial intelligence. He argues that heavy regulations could stifle the industry, especially given competition from China. Trump says the U.S. needs a unified approach to AI regulation to avoid complications from state-by-state rules. The order directs the administration to draw up a list of problematic regulations for the Attorney General to challenge. States with laws could lose access to broadband funding, according to the text of the order. Some states have already passed AI laws focusing on transparency and limiting data collection.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A new AP-NORC poll finds this holiday season isn’t quite so merry for American shoppers as large shares of them are dipping into savings, scouring for bargains and feeling like the overall economy is stuck in a rut under President Donald Trump. The vast majority of U.S. adults say they’ve noticed higher than usual prices for groceries, electricity and holiday gifts. Roughly half of Americans say it’s harder than usual to afford the things they want to give as holiday gifts. It’s a sobering assessment for the Republican president, who returned to the White House in large part by promising to lower prices.
