Kathleen Habetz Compton lost her battle with leukemia on March 6, 2018.

She was born Sept. 7, 1945, to parents Pirmin Hubert and Frances Hensgens Habetz in Rayne.

She graduated from Fenton High School, where she was a star basketball player. Kathleen married Cecil Compton in 1965. She was a seamstress for many friends and family. She worked at Jeff Davis Waterwork District No. 8 for 22 years and was awarded Secretary of the Year in 2006.

Kathleen’s life was centered on her faith and her church. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, having been chosen as an Outstanding Catholic Daughter of the Year; she was a member of the Altar Society; she sang in the church choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Kathleen loved gardening, cross-stitching, woodworking, puzzling and cooking. She had a servant’s heart for people so whether she was woodworking, cooking a crab stew, making a fig cake or delivering jelly baskets or vegetables out of her garden, she served her friends and family.

Funeral services for Kathleen Habetz Compton, 72, of Jennings will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. William Miller, Monsignor Ronald Groth and Fr. Roland Vaughn officiating.

Visitation will begin Friday, March 9, 2018 at Miguez Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m., with a rosary recited by Deacon Mike Tramel at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

Burial will follow in Hathaway-Raymond Community Cemetery.

Ms. Compton was preceded in death by her fiance, Patrick Boudoin; sister Marcella Habetz Gossen; brother Patrick Conrad Habetz; and her parents, Pirmin and Frances Hensgens Habetz.

She is survived by the father of her children, Cecil Compton and his wife Carol Daigle Compton; her children, Paula Compton Charles of Covington, Dwayne (Holly) Compton of Hathaway and Kathryn Compton (Andre) Labbe’ of New Orleans; her grandchildren, Victoria Charles, Zachary Charles, Connor Charles, William Charles, Caitlyn Compton, Mallory Compton, Megan Labbe’, Lauren Labbe’ and Noah Labbe’; and her siblings Sister Lawrence Habetz, O. Carm., Patricia Habetz Augustine, P.J. Habetz and sister-in-law Margie Habetz.

A special thank you to Dr. Michael Broussard, Dr. Craig Broussard, Dr. Ron Lewis, Jr. and the Infusion Lab at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and the MD Anderson Hospital Staff.
