Last week the Louisiana Department of Health reported the first human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) for this year.
Being accustomed to mosquitoes, many of us forget that these pests can carry serious illnesses. West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease is the most serious type of presentation of WNV, infecting the brain and spinal cord. Neuroinvasive disease can lead to death, paralysis and brain damage.
