A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church for Nolan Haik Ackoury, Sr., 88, of Jennings on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at 10 a.m., with Father Charles McMillin officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home beginning on Friday, Aug. 24, from 4:30-9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. The family requests that visitation resume on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. Jules Cemetery.

Nolan was born in Baton Rouge on May 29, 1930, to Emile Ackoury and Adele Nolan Ackoury. He was called from this life on Aug. 21, 2018.

Nolan was born and raised in Baton Rouge where he graduated from Catholic High of Baton Rouge. Nolan then attended Southeastern Louisiana where he received his bachelor’s degree and LSU where he received his master’s degree.

He then moved to Jennings in 1958. Nolan acquired a teaching job at J.D. Vocational Technical School (now SOWELA) and worked his way up to director. He worked for J.D. Vocational Technical School for 30 years from 1958-1988. Nolan also served our country honorably in the U.S. Army. Most of all, Nolan loved spending time with all of his family. Nolan was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Nolan leaves behind to cherish his memories Bridget Ackoury of Lafayette; Ruth (Eric) Trahan of Jennings; Nolan (Marianne) Ackoury, Jr. of Moss Bluff; Stephen Ackoury of Florida; Charlotte (Erik) Larson of Pineville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Nolan was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Adele Ackoury, Sr.; his beloved wife, Earlene LeJeune Ackoury; his brother, Emile (E.A.) Ackoury, Jr; his sister, Marylyn Agerton; and his grandson, Braydin Larson.
