Anne Louise Broussard Fautt

Anne Louise Broussard Fautt, 95, died peacefully at her home on Sept. 13, 2018.

Anne Louise was born Dec. 24, 1922 in Lake Arthur of Acadian French heritage, one of five daughters of Theogene and Olivia Olivier Broussard of Lake Arthur.

A tennis player and a swimmer, Anne attended Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge. She was married in March 1942 to Capt. Robert Hugh Fautt after his graduation from United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Anne met Bob through her cousin, Paul Andrepont, while they were in flight training at Chenault Air Force Base in Lake Charles. Bob soon left for WWII, where he was a fighter pilot in Europe receiving the Purple Heart of Valor. They had a daughter, Susan Anne.

After the war, Anne, Bob and Susan were stationed in Puerto Rico at the AF Base of the Lesser Antilles under the command of General Samford. On Aug. 1, 1947, Bob was killed in the plane he was flying that was caught in a violent storm on Jamaica. Subsequently, Anne and Susan returned to her parents’ home in Louisiana. Anne was pregnant with twin girls, Mary Catherine and Edith Louise, who were born prematurely and died in September.

In 1949, Anne and Susan moved to New Orleans. At the age of 27, a widow with a young child, she was the oldest student and only woman to enroll in the Pharmacy School at Loyola University of New Orleans. After graduating with honors in chemistry and pharmacy and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, she practiced and was partner with her father in his Lake Arthur pharmacy, established in 1898.

“Miss Anne” as she was affectionately called, served her community caring for young and old, sick and dying regardless of race, religion or class. She served on the La. State Board of Pharmacy, the board of the Public Library and the Altar Society of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

In 2013, Anne decided to move to Houston, Texas, to be near her daughter, Susan, her granddaughter, Anne, and her sister, Alyce. She loved her new friends where she lived in her apartment at The Village of Tanglewood. She enjoyed Houston, the museum trips, spending time with her family and loved the Houston restaurants. She continued her interests in current events and was an avid reader and tennis fan. When Anne would not answer her phone we all knew that she was watching either the US Open Tennis Championship, Wimbledon or an LSU or New Orleans Saints football game. She attended mass weekly at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and with Susan at Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church. She instilled in her family her strong faith In God and special devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Anne is survived by her daughter Susan Anne and her husband, Ron Blankenship; her three grandchildren, Anne Stevenson Howard of Houston, Frank Clancy Dupepe, Jr. (Esther) of Birmingham, Ala., and Laurent Robert Dupepe (Erika) of New Orleans; and three greatgrandchildren, Avery, Robert and Clancy III. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Guirovich of Lafayette and Alyce Clarkson of Houston, Texas. Anne is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins here and abroad. In particular; Mary Catherine Clarkson and Richard Clarkson (Gayle)of Houston, Texas, and Laura Anne Trahan of Lafayette.

A Requiem Mass will be held at Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at 1 p.m., with a private burial at Glenwood Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bradshaw Carter.
