(AP) — Four major matchups for the coming college football season and the NBA draft airing on both ESPN and ABC were announced Tuesday by ESPN as part of its presentation to advertisers in NewYork. The Labor Day weekend game between Florida State and LSU will air on ABC for the second straight season. The night game on Sunday, Sept. 3, will take place this season in Orlando, Florida. Alabama will host Texas on Sept. 9 in a game airing on ESPN. ABC again will have the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma from Dallas on Oct. 7 as well as Notre Dame’s game at Clemson on Nov. 4.

Jennings High Senior Evan Cormier made the big decision, fulfilling a dream that began as a seventh-grade athlete, to continue his football career on the collegiate level. The decision was made official Friday as friends, family and teammates gathered around to witness as Cormier signed with John Melvin University (JMU).

(AP) Kentucky Derby winner Mage remains on track to run in the Preakness next week to continue a pursuit of horse racing’s first Triple Crown. Co-owner Ramiro Restrepo says a final decision is expected Friday after the horse has one more workout. Restrepo downplayed concern about the two-week turnaround that’s rare in North American racing. He cited trainer Gustavo Delgado’s experience with similar time frames in Venezuela. Last year’s long shot Derby winner Rich Strike did not run in the Preakness because his owner and trainer thought the horse needed extra rest.

BATON ROUGE – Lake Arthur High Senior Ashton Davis competed in the men’s 2A 400m dash for the 2023 LHSAA Outdoor Track and Field State Championship meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium last Friday. While Davis is no stranger to the state venue, this year he brought home the gold reaching a goal he has worked diligently towards achieving.
