NEW YORK (AP) — This was a match that would not end. Should not end, one might say. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, two of the brightest young stars of men’s tennis, traded shots of the highest quality and countless momentum swings across five sterling sets for 5 hours, 15 minutes until Alcaraz finally won the last point at 2:50 a.m. on Thursday, the latest finish in U.S. Open history.
(AP) — New LSU coach Brian Kelly is looking for his first victory with the Tigers, who had a lot of cleaning up to do after a slew of miscues, including that blocked extra point with no time left, in the 24-23 season-opening loss to Florida State in New Orleans. Southern has already won, financially speaking. This game is a $700,000 payday for the Jaguars, who have only to bus across Baton Rouge to reach Tiger Stadium. Although the historically Black university plays in the Football Championship Subdivision, the game is generating a lot of fanfare. The two Baton Rouge schools have each played football more than a century and have large fan bases, but they have never played each other.

LAKE ARTHUR – After fighting through yet another weather delay that saw the Lake Arthur Tigers start their contest with Basile on Friday night and have to continue on Saturday morning, Head Coach Tarius Davis and company are hoping for a return to normalcy this Friday when they travel to take on the Green Demons of Mamou. After fighting through a multitude of ailments in the Basile contest, Davis explained his squad will be at full strength when they make their return trip to the Cajun Prairie this Friday night.
BASILE — For the second week in a row, the Lake Arthur Tigers were forced to play on a Saturday after the weather caused the cancellation of a scheduled contest. This time however, the Tigers started their game and had it interrupted. The Tigers and Basile Bearcats played 10 minutes of their Friday contest before heavy rain and lightning forced them to reschedule the following day at 11 am. Lake Arthur held a 6-0 lead and tons of momentum before the weather came, but the Bearcats ultimately rallied on Saturday to claim a 35-12 victory to open the season.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds are looking for a football game. After getting rained out and getting canceled by lightning last week in the Elton Jamboree, the Hounds were forced to relinquish a 14-0 advantage over the Kinder Yellow Jackets.
Foo Fact of the Game: For the third time this season, the Bulldogs played on a muddy field that affected the play of both teams in their 25-7 loss to Leesville.
