The Jennings boys’ and girls’ basketball teams traveled west to play their parish rivals Welsh Wednesday night, and both the Bulldogs and Lady Dogs came home with a win. The girls’ game was competitive in the first half as the Lady Dogs lead 27-12, and then went on to win 58-41. The boys game went back and forth in the 1st half as Welsh lead 27-24 at the half. Jennings would then outscore Welsh 37-20 in the second half to take a hard-fought 61-47 win over the Greyhounds
ATLANTA (AP) — Taysom Hill and the New Orleans Saints will be watching the scoreboard when they close their regular season at the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
ALEXANDRIA – The Jennings Lady Bulldogs continued to rack up the wins over the holiday break as they slipped past a tough Avoylles Public Charter (APC) team by a final of 47-43 in the Alexandria Senior High Tournament. The Lady Dogs improve to 16-5 overall on the season, and are currently sitting at No. 2 in the Class 3A power ratings according to geauxpreps.com. Jennings was back in action Tuesday night when they traveled to take on the Welsh Greyhounds in non-district action.
LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers made quick work of the Vinton Lady Lions by cruising to a 78-19 non-district win at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. The win moves the No. 5-ranked Lady Tigers out to 15-4 for the season. Lake Arthur sent three players into double figures in the win, with Kali Hornsby, Vivian Sketoe and Darrah Broussard combining for 48 points in the win. The Lady Tigers were back in action Tuesday night when they welcomed in the Sulphur Lady Tors for a non-district tilt.
WELSH – The Welsh Greyhounds picked up a big win Monday night by coming from behind to defeat the 5A Sam Houston Broncos by a final of 63-53 at Greyhound Gymnasium. The Hounds placed four players in double figures in the win, led by Jonovan Begnaud’s 20-point showing. With the win, Welsh hit the .500 mark at 7-7 overall and hosted the Jennings Bulldogs Tuesday night in a big Jeff Davis Parish showdown.
EUNICE – The Lacassine Cardinals finished their assault on the St. Edmund High School Tournament by blasting Grace Christian 79-48 to claim the tournament title. The Cards went 3-0 in the event and beat all three teams by over 30 points. The No. 4-ranked Cardinals moved their overall record to 18-5 for the season, and played the Kinder Yellow Jackets in a non-district match up on Tuesday night. The Cards placed four players in double figures in the big win, with Kane Broussard leading the way with his 24 tallies.
BATON ROUGE (AP) — Alexis Morris scored a careerhigh 30 points and No. 19 LSU defeated No. 23 Texas A&M 75-66 on Sunday for the Tigers’ 13th straight victory.
