The Jennings Bulldogs will be closing out the regular season Friday night with a big task at hand. The longtime rival Westlake Rams stroll into town for a district 4-3A finale with loads of playoff implications at stake. The Rams and former Jeff Davis Parish coach John Richardson have had a big turnaround season in 2021, and sport a 7-2 overall mark. The only two losses came at the hands of 3A powers Iowa and Lake Charles College Prep. The No. 14-ranked Rams have won more games in 2021 than combined over the last three seasons, a span that saw them win only five total. For Westlake, this game is about securing a home playoff berth and upping their seeding.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds were unable to face a Homecoming opponent last week, as the Port Barre Red Devils were forced to forfeit due to covid issues. That win moved the Hounds to a 6-3 overall record and 2-1 in District 6-2A. Welsh won only one game all of last season, so the progress this season has been by leaps and bounds. The Greyhounds will close out the season against LCA this Friday night and then begin preparing for the state playoffs against other class 2-A non-select schools.
Foo Fact of the Game: The Bulldogs lead 29-0 at halftime despite only having the ball for 5 minutes and 12 plays in Jennings 43-0 win over South Beauregard.
