The Jennings Bulldogs are coming off an impressive win over the St. Martinville Tigers in the opening round of the playoffs last week by a final of 56-18. The Dogs dominated in all phases of the win despite being down five players due to suspension. The offense rolled up close to 400 yards on the ground in the win, with Chris Ned and Gerald Watson both going over the 100-yard mark. Marquel Gordon and Liam Leblanc also turned in nice performances by gaining 96 and 87, respectively. The Bulldog defense stood tall all night, showing a bend but don’t break performance against a talented Tiger offense. The Dogs forced three turnovers in the contest, picking off their quarterback twice and getting a strike sack by Leblanc early in the game with the Tigers driving. Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier discussed the win and had high praise for his club.

ELTON — The Elton Indians have advanced to the second round of the Division IV non-select playoffs on the strength of their 36-14 win over LaSalle in the bi-district round last week. Elton will now make the drive to North Iberville to take on the number six-ranked team in Division IV. “They are a very well-coached team with some good athletes,” noted Indian Head Coach Marcus LeJeune. Elton will enter the contest with an 8-3 overall mark, while the Bears of North Iberville come in with a 9-2 record.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds survived round two with the Lake Arthur Tigers in the bi-district round of the state playoffs, and now they get to travel to north Louisiana to face the Logansport Tigers in the regional round of the Division IV non-select playoffs. “We are going to face a very good team that is wellcoached and has some very good athletes,” commented Welsh Head Coach Ronnie Courville. The Tigers will enter the contest with an overall 8-3 record, with their losses coming at the hands of Many, Loyola and Kinder. Welsh enters the fray with an overall mark of 5-6. The common foe between the two is Kinder, who beat Welsh in the season-opener by a 36-32 score.

Jennings was without the services of five players due to suspension from the previous week, but multiple players stepped up on both sides of the ball to aid Jennings to victory. The Dogs will now advance to the second round of the Division II nonselect playoffs, where they will travel to Franklinton to take on the Demons in a clash of No. 8 and No. 9 seeds. The Dogs sprinted out to a 21-6 lead at the half, but put up a whopping number in the second half and completely controlled the game.

WELSH — You might think it was “second verse, same as the first,” but there was nothing easy in Welsh’s 38-23 secondtime win over the Lake Arthur Tigers. The win advances the Greyhounds to the regional round of the non-select Division IV playoffs, with Welsh getting the honors of traveling to Logansport Friday night.

ELTON — The Elton Indians got their playoff season started on the right foot Friday night, as they defeated the LaSalle Tigers by a final of 34-14. The win moved the Indians into the second round of the Division IV non-select playoffs, where they will travel to take on North Iberville. Elton moved to 8-3 overall with the win. The Indians used the ground game to again propel them to victory, reeling off 336 yards en route to their big win. Junior tailback Makelin Lemoine had another big night by rushing for 197 yards and a pair of TDs, while Davin Simon chipped in with 81 and Jaylin Thomas added 50. Simon also had 54 yards through the air and a score.

The Jennings Recreation Department soccer teams, including Coach Jarod Noeske’s 9-10-year-old group, are well on their way, practicing several nights a week. Soon, the young soccer fanatics will be competing with other teams in their division.

The No. 9 Jennings Bulldogs have set their eyes on a playoff run that begins tonight at Jerry Simmons Stadium against the No. 24-seeded St. Martinville Tigers. The Dogs are coming off a 27-6 win over the Westlake Rams last week, but the win came with controversy. The two teams had an altercation with just under eight minutes left to play, which resulted in a fight that left players suspended. Jennings will be without the services of five players on the defensive side of the football for this week’s contest. Jennings comes into the ball game tonight sporting a 7-3 record, while the Tigers are 3-7. Despite their lopsided record, the Tigers have played a host of really good football teams throughout the season and are better than their record indicates. The Bulldogs come into the game with an offense that has continued to improve over the season, led by 1,000-yard rusher Chris Ned. Gerald Watson has also come on lately, running the football and having over 200 yards of all-purpose offense last week.
