ELTON — The Elton Indians rebounded from a loss to Basile last Friday night with a huge district win over the Grand Lake Hornets by a final of 50-35. It was the Makelin Lemoine show in the contest, as the junior running back rushed the pigskin for a whopping 398 yards on 22 carries and five TDs. He also had an interception return for a TD late in the contest to put the game on ice and help the Indians stay on track in their quest to host a playoff game. The Indians improved to 6-3 overall with the win and will now turn their attention to the Merryville Panthers this week in a Thursday night contest.

Youth aged 5-12 years old from Welsh, Iota, Iowa and Jennings battled it out in flag and tackle football games at the Jennings Rec Department Superbowl last weekend. Look for additional action on the Community Page in Sunday’s edition of Jennings Daily News.

WESTLAKE — The Jennings Bulldogs traveled down I-10 Thursday night to square off with a feisty St. Louis Saints team hungry for an upset. The Dogs took the Saints’ best shot in the middle of the contest, trailing at one point 24-14 to the home-standing Saints. However, Jennings would rally in the fourth stanza to once again grab the lead and claim a 34-24 victory.

LAKE ARTHUR — After beating their heads against the proverbial brick walls, the Welsh Greyhounds and the Lake Arthur Tigers will square off Friday night in a very public game featuring two very public high schools.

ELTON — The Elton Indians will be looking to regroup following last week’s District 4-1A loss to the Basile Bearcats. Elton now stands at 5-3 for the season and will play host to the Grand Lake Hornets in another key league battle. “We are definitely in a regrouping situation,” commented Indian Head Coach Marcus LeJeune. “We started good, but then we lost our composure in this heated rivalry and that really hurt us. You have to give credit to Basile because they controlled the line of scrimmage all night. We had a chance to come back, but penalties hurt us at crucial times. Then we lost Jaylin Thomas to an injury and with our depth, when you lose one player, you are losing him at several positions. We just have to learn to deal with adversity in the proper way and that’s something we are still struggling with.”

JENNINGS — The Jennings Bulldogs are coming off a tough defeat at the hands of the Notre Dame Pioneers last week in non-district play but must now jump right back into district action. The 5-3 Bulldogs, who are also 1-1 in league action, will travel to Westlake to take on the St. Louis Saints Thursday night.

LAFAYETTE — The Lake Arthur Tigers hit the road Friday to take on the Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy Tigers, but unfortunately, could not produce a win.
