Sophomore back grabs five TD’s in win
The 2-1 Jennings Bulldogs are coming off another impressive victory that stretched their winstreak to two games after lopsided wins over Eunice (34-0) and Welsh (54-29). However, a stiff test awaits them this week at Jerry Simmons Stadium when the Northwest Raiders come to town. The Raiders were a Division II Non-Select Semi-Final team a season ago and returned a good core group of players from that squad. The Raiders jumped out to a 2-1 start to open the season and came into the year ranked No. 5 in the LHSAA Sportswriters Class 3A preseason polls. They have wins over Class 4A Eunice (21 14) and Class 4A Rayne (50-14) before falling in a week three thriller to Class 5A Barbe 35-32 in a barnburner that went back and forth.
WELSH — When the Welsh Greyhounds take on the South Beauregard Golden Knights this Friday, the coaches will be looking for improved play.
JENNINGS — The Jennings Bulldogs rode the tremendous game of sophomore quarterback Chris Ned to a strong 54-29 win over the visiting Welsh Greyhounds here Friday night in a non-district clash. Jennings moves to 2-1 for the season while the Hounds drop to 1-2 with the loss.
LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers moved to 2-1 on the season Friday night by pounding the Bolton Academy Bears with a final score of 68-0. The hosts led 55-0 at the intermission and cruised their way to an easy victory over their guests from Alexandria. Laker Arthur rolled up 376 yards of total offense, with all but three stripes coming on the ground. The Tigers’ defense was ferocious in allowing only 56 total yards to the visiting Bears and kept them out of the endzone all night.
MONTGOMERY — The Elton High Indians added another win to their record in week three of the season as they traveled to Montgomery Friday night to defeat the Montgomery High Tigers. The two teams faced off in a well-matched competition as the Indians left with a fourpoint win over the Tigers with a final score of 44-40. The Indian charge was led by senior running back Tristan LeBlanc who once again racked up over half the team’s total game yards with 366 yards on 26 carries hitting the endzone for five rushing TDs for the night. Sophomore running back Ma’Kelin Lemoine carried the ball 13 times for 108 yards finding the endzone for one TD. The Elton Indians tallied up 499 rushing yards and eight passing in the contest. On the defensive side of the ball, Derek George picked up two interceptions for the Indians.
