(AP) — Sha'Carri Richardson set the tone for her own comeback story a year ago when she won the 100meter U.S. title, then the world championship, and brashly proclaimed: 'I'm not back, I'm better.'
LAFAYETTE — The Crowley Millers opened their 2024 American Legion State Tournament off with a bang over the weekend by sweeping through their first two games in the eight-team field held at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field on the campus of the University of Louisiana. The Millers opened the tourney with a 17-5 win over the Carencro Aces, then followed that up with a winner’s bracket win over the tournament favorite Bossier Phillies by a count of 9-2. Those wins advanced the Millers into the winners bracket finals with a date against the Jesuit-based Retif Oilers out of New Orleans late Monday night. The winner of the state tournament will advance to the Southern Regional held in Washington, Missouri at the beginning of August.
LACASSINE — Anyone who has been involved in high school sports knows the time commitment, hard work and dedication that comes along with being part of the team. Even those watching from the sidelines can respect the effort these students put in to compete. However, what most spectators don’t see is the late nights and early mornings, balancing practice, studies and extracurricular involvement and the social sacrifices that is involved for one to be a successful academic athlete.

WELSH — Two Jeff Davis Parish 4-H students travelled to Nebraska recently to compete in the 4-H National Shooting Competition.
EUNICE — For a second consecutive season, LSU took home four of the five major awards for the 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Baseball team, the organization announced on Tuesday. The Tigers also produced a team-high seven selections among the two squads and honorable mentions.
To say Kaitlyn Sawyer loves to run is an understatement. This Hathaway High School junior has already notched a pair of Outdoor State Championships in the 800 meters and the 1600 meters. She’s been a state runner-up in both Cross Country and in Indoor Track. According to Sawyer, the idea of running came to her at an early age.
