Cards pound out 16 hits in win

The Jennings Bulldogs took on the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers this week and made quick work of their district mates by blasting them 13-0 in a league contest at Danny Reed Field. The Dog offense needed only six hits in the contest to win, however used seven LCCP walks to help benefit. Tyler Daigle tossed a five inning complete game on the mound for Jennings, allowing only three hits and struck out four. The Dogs were able to end the game in five innings due to the 10-run rule. The Bulldogs also picked up a win last Saturday over the Hamilton Christian Warriors by a final of 9-5. Their record currently stands at 13-9 overall.

JENNINGS — Six JDP school track teams recently competed in the parish (JDP) track meet hosted by Jennings High School. Elton High School (EHS), Hathaway High School (HHS), Jennings High School (JHS), Lacassine High School (LHS), Lake Arthur High School (LAHS) and Welsh High School (WHS) were represented by their track teams.

The Jennings High softball team was looking to rebound from an extra inning loss to South Beauregard Tuesday night when they hosted the Crowley Ladies at Tom Precht Field Jennings scored 10 runs in the 2nd inning to help them take a 15-0 win in four innings. Lady Dogs pitchers Kylie Price and Molly Person combined for a no hitter in the shut out win.

LAFAYETTE — The 2024 LHSAA Powerlifting State Championships were held recently at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette. Elton High School senior Danerian (D.D.) Actlis crushed the boys’ Division V 165pound competition, setting two new state records.

LAKE ARTHUR — Lake Arthur High School senior Vivian Sketoe recently capped off arguably the best career in school history this season as a Lady Tiger. On Monday, she saw her career extend by signing a scholarship with Mississippi College to play on the next level. Sketoe leaves Lake Arthur as the school’s all-time leader in scoring, assists and steals, all while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average and participating in multiple sports. In her time at the school, Sketoe achieved many individual accomplishments and was also a part of the Lake Arthur Lady Tiger State Championship team a few years ago. Sketoe played for both her mother and father, Vickie and Fred, at the high school level.

The No.6-ranked Jennings Lady Bulldogs picked up another win over the weekend by slipping past the East Beauregard Lady Trojans by a final of 9-5 at Tom Precht Field. The Lady Dogs rallied from an early 3-0 deficit by scoring eight unanswered runs through the third and fourth innings and held on for the four-run win. The Lady Dogs pounded out 11 hits over sixand- a-half innings led by Karmen Bradley’s 3-3 performance. Sophomore slugger Emma Venable launched a three-run bomb and collected four RBI’s in the victory. Jenna Morvant picked up the win in the circle by firing seven innings and struck out seven.
