LAKE ARTHUR — Sole possession of first place in district 5-2A was on the line when the Lake Arthur Tigers hosted the Vinton Lions at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. The Tigers and Lions traded leads five times in the first half, with the Tigers leading 30-27 at the half. The two teams would trade leads four times in the second half, however Vinton would gradually increase their lead through the fourth period to take a 65-55 win.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds picked up a big district 5-2A win over the Notre Dame Pioneers Friday night by a final of 5825. The win moves the No. 7-ranked Hounds out to 1110 overall, 3-2 in league play. The Hounds used a stellar night from post player La’Troy Pattum, who scored a gamehigh 22 points to lift Welsh over the Pios.

LACASSINE — The No. 7-ranked Hathaway Hornets went into John Juneau Memorial Gymnasium Saturday night and trounced the Lacassine Lady Cardinals by a final of 80-55 in a key district match-up between Jeff Davis Parish schools. The Lady Hornets took advantage of 12 3-point bombs in the contest to up their overall mark to 12-14, while Lacassine fell to 14-13. The Lady Hornets placed all five starters in double figures, led by Madison Suire and Alli Carder, who both pumped in 19 points apiece. Lacassine was led by Addison Hollier’s gamehigh 29.
LACASSINE — The No. 1-ranked Lacassine Cardinals stayed perfect in district play Saturday night by thumping the Hathaway Hornets by a final of 71-17 at John Juneau Memorial Gymnasium. The win moved the Cards to an impressive 30-1 overall, while Hathaway fell to 7-23 overall. The Saturday win came after a thrilling victory over No. 5 Midland a night before. Alexx Thomas had a big night for the Cards as he dumped in a game-high 25 points, including six 3-point bombs.
VINTON — The Welsh Greyhounds boys basketball team traveled to play the Vinton Lions Friday night in district play. Welsh would take an early 7-2 lead, but Vinton would take a 35-21 halftime lead. In the fourth period, Welsh would make a comeback and trailed 59-53 late in the game, but Vinton would hold on for a 68-64 win.
