Tigers too much for Jennings, claim 30-19 playoff win

The Jennings Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to the defending Division II non-select state champion Opelousas Tigers Friday night by a final of 30-19 from Jerry Simmons Stadium. The two teams went back and forth at each other all night long, but it was the running of Tiger back D’Shaun Ford who ultimately took control of the game and wore down the Bulldog defense. Ford rushed for two TD’s, including a back-breaking 68-yard scoring run late in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice. The Dogs finished their incredible season as the district 3-3A champions and earned a 9-2 record. Opelousas improved to 8-3 on the year and will advance to play the Plaquemine Green Devils in the quarterfinal round of the Division II nonselect playoffs.

ELTON — The Elton Indians advanced to the regional round of the state playoffs with a tough 22-18 win over district rival Basile last week. The Indians, who now have an 8-3 overall mark, will travel to face the number six seed Logansport Berries in the Division IV non-select round.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds used a balanced offensive attack with a defense that forced 10 sacks and two pick-six scores to race to a 59-24 win over the visiting West St. Mary Wolfpack in the Division IV non-select bidistrict round of the state playoffs. With the win, the Hounds moved to 6-5 for the season.

ELTON — Friday night lights in Cleve Beard Stadium would be round two of the Battle of the Bayou as the Elton High Indians hosted the Basile High Bearcats in the Division IV bi-district playoff round. There would be no room for error as the winner of the contest will advance to Regionals while the losing teams’ season comes to an end.

WELSH — The No. 9Welsh Greyhounds won a convincing ball game over the West St. Mary Wolfpack at Greyhound Stadium Friday night by a final of 59-24. With the win, the Hounds will move on to the next round of the playoffs. Welsh will have to await a decision by the LHSAA on who their next opponent will be as the game between the Lake Arthur Tigers and Ferriday Trojans was stopped due to an altercation that occurred on the field. The game was stopped on the field in the second quarter due to a brawl that broke out.

SEC This Week: No. 6 Tennessee at No. 11 Georgia latest league matchup with huge CFP implications

(AP) — The Southeastern Conference will feature another potentially playoff-changing contest when No. 6 Tennessee plays at No. 11 Georgia. The Bulldogs come off a loss at Ole Miss. Losing again to the Vols would give them three defeats for the first time since 2018. Tennessee has lost its last seven games to Georgia. Elsewhere, No. 23 South Carolina is looking to win its fourth straight and third in a row over a ranked opponent when it plays host to No. 24 Missouri. The Gamecocks have beaten Oklahoma, then-No. 10 Texas A&M and then-24th-ranked Vanderbilt the past three games.
