During the March meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Parish in Jennings, Grand Knight Frank Angelle (left) presented the council’s Family of the Month Award for February 2023 to the family of James and Tammy Habetz (center and right). James currently serves as the council’s Warden and has been a member of the Knights since 1974. Additionally, he is an Honorary Life Member of the Order and a Third Degree Knight. James has helped to prepare the food at the council’s last 14 barbecue fundraisers and has always sold his quota of tickets. Tammy has done an exemplary job of getting donations of food items for the barbecue meals. This effort has increased the profit margin on the project. James and Tammy also prepared the meal for the Fourth Degree Knights when their Council hosted the meetings of Msgr. Peters Assembly eight times over the last seven years. In addition, the couple prepares some of the food for the council’s annual Christmas Parties every December. On many occasions, James and Tammy have cooked the meal prior to monthly KC Council meetings, always receiving rave reviews. James has also helped fry the fish at OLHC Parish Picnics and both have helped to collect donations for the annual Tootsie Roll Drive, the proceeds of which support God’s Special Angels. They supported the construction of the bell tower by the Our Lady Help of Christians Church building, an activity that has been appreciated by many in the community. Over their lifetimes, James and Tammy have served their church parishes as altar Servers, ushers, lectors and Eucharistic ministers. They have provided valued support during the annual Shannon Savoy Memorial Golf Tournament. The proceeds of the tournament support Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Elementary School. Many times James and a group of Brother Knights from the Council have prepared a meal for citizens in communities ravaged by natural disasters. In addition, James and Tammy have supported the supply distribution centers operated on a monthly basis at St. Mary’s Center on many occasions. This project has greatly benefitted the needy of the community. The Habetz family has truly proved to be valued members of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Parish and are tremendous assets to the Catholic faith and to the Knights of Columbus.

During the March meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Parish in Jennings, Grand Knight Frank Angelle (left) presented the council’s Knight of the Month Award for February 2023 to Michael Cassidy (on right). Michael has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since October 1999. Since he joined KC Council 2012, he has participated in every Tootsie Roll Drive, which has resulted in thousands of dollars raised to support programs that benefit God’s Special Angels. Michael has also helped with the council’s barbecue fundraisers by selling advance tickets, helping set up the traffic pattern for drive-through customers and selling tickets to drive-through customers on the day of the barbecue. He also assisted with cooking the main course of the meals. Michael has coordinated meals served at monthly KC meetings and participated with a group of Knights in a Special Olympics Skills Learning event at Jennings Elementary School on Jan. 20. This activity was geared towards assisting some of “God’s younger Special Angels.” Michael served the citizens of Jeff Davis Parish as District Attorney for 30 years and ten days in an exemplary manner.

A ribbon cutting for Southern Crumbs was held Wednesday, March 22, at the new location at 342 North Main Street in Jennings.
