The end of a calendar year is a time of celebration. From Halloween to New Year’s Day, people attend an array of parties, dinners and other gatherings. Although alcohol is not a vital component of these occasions, quite frequently adult beverages are part of the equation. And when everyone is toasting for one reason or another, it can be easy for people to lose track of their alcohol consumption.

Acritical case now before the Louisiana Supreme Court will determine whether local communities retain the authority to make their own land use decisions or whether courts can substitute their judgment for that of elected officials and planning commissions. The outcome will profoundly affect economic development across Louisiana.

Dear Editor, On Nov. 15, 2025, the citizens of Jeff Davis Parish will be asked to vote to rededicate some of the half-cent consolidated jail sales tax, originally passed in 2014 and last renewed in 2024, to fund maintaining the newly constructed $2.1 million, 4,374 square foot animal shelter near the JDP Regional Consolidated Jail Facility on U.S. 90.
