As the presidential election approaches, national debates and broad policies are taking center stage. Yet many federal decisions ripple down to shape our local economy, especially in areas like agriculture and small business—two essential pillars of our parish. This year, the Farm Bill and Louisiana’s upcoming special legislative session are key areas of focus, both of which could have lasting effects on our community.

Spooky season is officially over and now it is time to deck the halls, right? I know some of you are thinking I am crazy because we have to get through Thanksgiving before we can be holly and jolly. But I say bring on the glitter, tinsel and lights! I can eat turkey next to stockings that were hung on the chimney with care. There will be no complaints from me about having a slice of pumpkin pie underneath the mistletoe.

It’s never easy dealing with a family death. Under no circumstance are you prepared for the sudden death of a loved one. It’s even more difficult when the life lost is one that came way too soon.
