This just in: There’s no wizard behind the curtain, and nobody’s actually in charge. There’s no shadowy cabal of billionaires scheming to bring about one-world government. To begin with, nobody clever enough to accumulate that much money believes that such a thing is A) remotely possible, or B) even desirable.

Sometimes when my mind cannot focus on one train of thought, or I do not have enough thoughts on a topic to commit to a full column, I throw together a little lagniappe of topics.

I do not believe that there are any undecided voters left in Pennsylvania.

In a few days, we’ll know who President Trump wants to be the next Supreme Court justice. Republicans will praise her qualifications, her intellect, her judicial temperament. Democrats will oppose. There will be an opportunity for a real debate: Should the president’s nominee be confirmed to the nation’s highest court?

Joe Vadala’s question was heartbreaking in every way imaginable. Vadala, a high school teacher whose fight against multiple sclerosis has left him immunocompromised, looked Joe Biden in the eye last week during CNN town hall in Scranton, Pa., told him he wanted to teach, but “I don’t want to die,” and leave his wife, who’d lost her own mother to COVID-19, a widow.

I have had the opportunity to survey I a bit of several of our area parishes and yet am told that those areas I haven’t seen are much worse.

So Bob Woodward went out and found the “named source” Trumpists were clamoring for: Boss Trump himself.
