During the October meeting of American Legion Frank Thibodeaux Post 520, members drew three winning raffle tickets from hundreds supported by area citizens for their annual fundraising drawing. The annual fundraiser was held in order to raise money for funding their many contributions to the community.

Bright and cheery yellow sunflowers are popping up everywhere — in ditches along roadways, in open fields, along fence lines and from woodlands to swampy areas. Spread among other native species such as goldenrod ( Solidago spp.), blue mistflower ( Conoclinium coelestinum) and late boneset ( Eupatorium serotinum), they dot the fall landscape like a painting of a serene meadow of flowers.

Lacassine High School held a special presentation honoring their 2022-2023 homecoming court on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.

On Oct. 19, Grand Knight Frank Angelle (left) from Knights of Columbus Council 2012 of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings made a $500 donation to Tabitha Dugas (right) from New Life Counseling in Lake Charles. The presentation was made as part of the Knights of Columbus Aid and Support After Pregnancy (ASAP) Program. In the past, New Life Counseling has played a major role in Pro Life activities within the Lake Charles Diocese.

Iremember the day Madeline said to me, “I like watching the squirrels scurrying around in my backyard, looking for acorns or stopping to eat one. I wonder what they’re thinking…” the former teacher said with her perfect diction and uplifting voice, as if she were telling the story to a gaggle of fourth graders gathered around her feet.
