During the August meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings, the family of Carl and Lillian Benoit was recognized as the Council’s Family of the Month for July 2021. Carl has been a Knight since November of 1965, and he is an Honorary Life Member of the Order and a Fourth Degree Knight. He has served three terms as the Council’s Grand Knight: 1991-94, 2011-12 and 2019 to 2021. Carl has also served as District Deputy for the KC District (assisting 6 KC Councils) three times (1993-94, 1997-98 and 2015 to 2017). He has just started a 4th tenure as a KC District Deputy. He has played a key role in each of the 21 straight Columbian Awards, and the many State Deputy Awards, which the Council has earned during the last 21 years. In the past Carl, with tremendous help and support from Lillian, has worked on all the fund raising and service related activities of the council, including the Tootsie Roll drives to raise money for support of God’s Special Angels, the annual Free-throw contest, and the annual Youth Soccer Challenge. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the Council’s 1st Degree Initiation Team. This initiative has brought many new Knights into the Order and into his Council. He is one of the editors for the Council’s monthly newsletter, helping to keep his Brother Knights informed about Council activities. Carl is an active member of James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion, where he was Post Commander for two years. Lillian is a valued member of the Ladies Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), and the Theresians. She is a past Regent of her CDA Court and has been the Mistress of Ceremonies for Catholic Daughters-Knights of Columbus Banquets. Lillian has served as an officer with Unit 19 of the American Legion Auxiliary from Jennings. Carl and Lillian’s service as positive role models have inspired their children and grandchildren to be active in church and community activities.
During the August meeting of Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings, Tommy Dennis was recognized as the Council’s Knight of the Month for July. Tommy has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since January of 2016. For the Council’s annual barbecue fundraiser activities over the last five years, Tommy assisted in putting together the envelopes with the letters and tickets for distribution to Council members. He has helped with the sale of tickets, always selling more than his quota of allotted tickets. He was one of the volunteers who helped move the barbecue pits from the owners’ locations to the cooking site near St. Mary’s Center. He also lent a hand in returning the pits to the owners after the event. He aided with the cooking of the meat for the main courses of the meals. After the food preparation was complete, he assisted with the cleanup of all equipment used for the project. The proceeds from the barbecues have allowed the Council to fund their many benevolent works. When masses for OLHC parish were conducted outside during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tommy helped to set up the sound system so that mass attendees could follow the conduct of the services. He has also worked at the Supply Distribution Centers operated out of St. Mary’s Center over the last year, and his efforts have helped benefit people affected adversely by the two hurricanes, which devastated the area. Tommy Dennis has truly proved to be a credit to the Knights of Columbus, and he is a tremendous asset to his Council.

Dear Clare: I always feel like I’m over packing for trips, but I don’t want to risk getting somewhere and not having what I need. Plus, I never know what I’ll be doing. How do you decide what to pack? — Debbie
