The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury recently announced a public hearing to discuss yearly millage rate adjustments during a last-minute special meeting. The jury approved moving forward on increasing tax millage rates back to the maximum rate previously established through parish vote. The parish tax assessor must assess personal property values each year, while real property — land and improvements — are assessed every four years to ensure alignment with present fair market value. Assessments usually take place between August and September, then millage roll forwards are presented to the police jury to accept or adjust.
