Jennings native to be honored by state university
GRAMBLING — Grambling State University will be awarding an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters to distinguished alumna and Jennings native Alana Ward Robinson during its Spring 2025 Commencement Ceremony, to be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. The special degree will be awarded to Robinson for her contributions to society as the university recognizes her positive impact on the world, especially in the areas of service and philanthropy.
Meche sentenced for fatal collision
A Roanoke man was sentenced in the 31st Judicial District Judicial Court last week for his role in a vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Jennings woman in 2023.

Area rider wins national rodeo event
IOWA — Lifelong Iowa resident Josie Conner recently won the American Rodeo 2025 Breakaway Championship at Global Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Conner chased down a calf on her champion horse, Dutch, roping it in 1.84 seconds to beat out the country’s top women’s rodeo athletes.
