A public meeting was held recently at the Lacassine Community Center discussing risks and questions surrounding Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in Louisiana. State representatives heard information from local industry experts on concerns related to CCS projects seeking to store concentrated carbon dioxide (CO2) underground in Louisiana. They also addressed pushback from constituents over eminent domain laws allowing expropriation of property; lack of proper liabilities placed on sequestration companies if damages occur, risks to underground sources of drinking water and lack of local government authority to reject CO2 projects in parishes.
