Jeff Davis Parish Elton Library recently hosted a book signing with lifelong Southwest Louisiana resident Kristie Guillory Edmondson whose father was born and raised in Elton. Edmondson dedicated the book to her grandfather who would often find his shrimp boots wet from his grandchildren wearing them. The book Pelican State Princess Slippers is a story of a little girl that gets her own pair of shrimp boots only to find out that they are called various names in different regions of Louisiana. The book is full of Cajun culture and sayings as the little girl decides on a name for her special boots.
The 31st Judicial District Public Defender’s Office recently received the results of their annual audit of financial statements by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
The Diocese of Lake Charles Altar Society recently held their annual February conference at the St. Mary's Center in Jennings that featured a special collection of rosaries from all over the world. The rosaries were collected by Jennings High School graduate John Semmes for his sister Estelle Semmes Monic. Monic later donated the collection to the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist Museum in Lafayette with an understanding that the collection could be used for educational purposes.
