LAKE ARTHUR — The Jeff Davis Parish Library is holding a parish-wide family fun event saluting local heroes in blue for Police Appreciation Day Wednesday, Nov. 27. The salute will be held from 1–5 p.m. at the Lake Arthur Library branch, located at 600 Fourth St.

LIMA, Peru (AP) — President Joe Biden is gathering South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for talks. Friday’s meeting comes amid heightened concerns about North Korea’s growing military partnership with Russia and Pyongyang’s stepped-up ballistic missile tests. The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru. It also follows North Korea deploying thousands of troops to Russia to help Moscow try to claw back land in Russia’s Kursk border region that Ukraine seized earlier this year. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un also ordered a series of ballistic missile tests in the lead-up to this month’s U.S. election.

Co-op members north of Jennings, in Hathaway, Pine Island and Welsh will be affected by this outage. According to JDEC officials, the outage is necessary to allow JDEC’s transmission service provider, Entergy, to make repairs to their transmission equipment.
LAKE ARTHUR — Recently donated pickleball equipment has been vandalized at the new courts installed at Lake Arthur Park. Residents wanting to try the new sport, but didn’t have their own paddles or balls, were supplied with an onsite set, thanks to a donation by Hornsby Lawn and Equipment. All four paddles were broken and left on the court. Lake Arthur residents have since stepped up and donated three new sets for town officials to lend out.
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury has moved into the bid phase for the new parish animal shelter after the final architectural design phase with Beazely and Longo Shelter Design of Lafayette was completed.
