Preliminary CO2 risk assessed
OBERLIN — Members of a four parish Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Alliance seek to balance the risks of CO2 storage in the area that could possibly affect drinking water for much of Louisiana. The alliance came together with residents — many longtime workers in the oil and gas industry — to hear a preliminary analysis on proposed underground CO2 storage in Allen Parish. Professional geologist Michael Simms and Environmental Scientist Gary Snellgrove of Gulf Engineers and Consultants (GEC) in Baton Rouge, were hired to perform an environmental and public-health risk assessment for Allen Parish. The team shared information about the CO2 permitting process and underground reservoir formations. The team also received public feedback and addressed questions and concerns.
