The Jennings Lady Dogs basketball team used their version of a Maroon Wall in a 56-27 win against the visiting Sulphur Lady Tors Friday night. Jennings led 27-22 at halftime and would hold Class 5A Sulphur scoreless for 23 minutes in the second half. Sulphur would score four points in the final minute of the game against Jennings substitute players.
LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers suffered a close defeat at the hands of the Church Point Bears at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium by a final of 42-38. The two teams were close going into the third quarter, however a dry spell allowed Church Point to take a lead that would ultimately decide the game. Lake Arthur used a furious rally in the fourth to close the gap, however it would not be enough to win the low-scoring affair. The loss dropped the Tigers to 8-7 overall on the season. The Tigers were back in action Tuesday night when they played host to the 5A Sam Houston Broncos in a non-district tilt.
REEVES – The No.4- ranked Lacassine Cardinals hit the 20-win plateau and increased their winning streak to nine games with an 81-35 peppering of the Reeves Raiders on the road. The Cardinals go into district play as the favorite, and opened league play on the road at ESA Tuesday night. Lacassine saw three players hit double figures in the lopsided win over Reeves, with Aaron Garcia, Taiwan Jones and Konnor Ashford leading the way. Lacassine raced out to a 24-2 lead after the first quarter ended, and never looked back in claiming the blowoutwin.
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Khayla Pointer finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to power No. 13 LSU to a 76-48 romp over Auburn in Southeastern Conference play on Sunday.
