In each of the Lady Tigers first three playoff games, Deonna Brister has scored 24 points in each contest to help lead her club to a berth in the Class 2A semifinals.

HATHAWAY — The No. 1 Hathaway Lady Hornets punched their second straight ticket to the LHSAA Class B State Tournament on Thursday night by defeating No. 8 Zwolle by a final of 53-46 at Charles F. Grath Gymnasium. The win will now send the Lady Hornets into the semi-final round of the bracket where they will meet district rival Bell City at 5pm on Monday at Burton Coliseum. If the Hornets win that contest, they will advance to the Class B state championship game on Thursday at the University Center in Hammond on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University.

The Jennings Bulldogs kicked off the 2021 baseball season with a bang Tuesday night, using Ian Mullen’s gem on the mound to top Eunice by a score of 4-0. The senior right-hander allowed only a single hit in the seventh inning, but struck out a whopping 16 Bobcat hitters to earn his first victory of the season. Junior outfielder Lane Kratzer paced a nine-hit Bulldog attack by going 3-for-4 at the dish, while Seth Benoit and Will Monic also collected a pair of hits. Ethan Mack and Kolby Estes also popped hits for the Dogs in the victory.

The Jennings Lady Bulldogs opened their 2021 season with a story book finish to a ball game against DeQuincy at home on Tuesday. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, Jennings found life when Mia Benoit was able to reach and Emily Andrepont oped a single to center. That set the stage for a dramatic ending. On the first pitch she saw, Maddie Blanchard popped an inside-the-park, 3-run homer homer to allow the Lady Dogs to walk it off with a 3-1 victory.

LAKE ARTHUR - The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers opened their season in grand fashion on Wednesday by grabbing a 15-5 mercy-rule win over the Washington-Marion Lady Indians. Miya Breaux was big for the Lady Tigers both in the circle and at the plate. Breaux went 3-for-4 with two triples, a double and seven RBI’s in the win. She also twirled six innings in the circle and recorded 12 strikeouts and gave up only one earned run.

LAFAYETTE - LSU freshman pitchers Garrett Edwards and Will Hellmers combined to limit UL Lafayette to one run through the first five innings Wednesday night, and the 11th-ranked Tigers erupted for five runs in the ninth inning to pull away for an 11-2 victory at Moore Field.

The No. 6 Jennings Lady Bulldogs kept on rolling in the Class 3A playoffs Tuesday night by blasting No. 11 Union Parish by a final of 57-41 at Gaudet Gymnasium. Jennings will now face a familiar task in traveling to Longville to take on district rival South Beauregard tonight. However, this battle will have a little more at stake than the previous two meetings.

ELTON - The Elton Lady Indians used a monster night from ULM signee Vici Woods to defeat the Delhi Lady Bears 69-44 and advance to the quarterfinal round of the Class A playoffs. The No. 6 Lady Indians will now travel to meet No. 3 Northwood-Lena for the chance to advance to the LHSAA state tournament beginning next week.
