HATHAWAY - The No. 1-ranked Hathaway Lady Hornets made quick work of their guests from Castor Tuesday night in the regional round of the Class B playoffs, earning a 74-43 win to advance to the quarterfinals.

The LHSAA announced the 2021 pairings for its’ high school boys’ basketball playoffs on Monday, and five Jeff Davis Parish schools found their names on the brackets. Bi-district games will begin on Monday, however a pair of teams in Hathaway and Elton both received byes in the opening round and will advance to the regional round. Jennings, Welsh and Lacassine will all begin play Friday night, with the Bulldogs earning a home game at Gaudet Gymnasium to start.
LAKE ARTHUR - The No. 3-ranked Lake Arthur Lady Tigers (LA) fought off a feisty Red River Bulldogs’ squad Monday night to inch closer to a return trip to the LHSAA Class 2A State Tournament with a 63-41 victory. The regional round win upped the Lady Tigers’ overall record to 28-4 on the season, while Red River ended their year at 8-11. Although the contest was a back-and-forth affair for most of the first half, LA put the clamps down on defense in the back-half of the ball game to pull away for the 22-point triumph. The Lady Tigers used another strong offensive showing from senior Deonna Brister, as she pumped in 24 points to lead the charge. Katherine Leonards and Kali Hornsby also found their way into double-digits for LA.
LAFAYETTE (AP) — Cedric Russell made coach Bobby Marliln’s record-breaking win memorable scoring five points points in a game-closing 7-0 run that gave Louisiana a 76-74 win over Texas-Arlington on Monday night.

LAKE ARTHUR - The No. 3 Lake Arthur Lady Tigers finally were able to get back on the court Saturday after having their opening round Class 2A playoff game moved back due to winter weather earlier in the week. However, the Lady Tigers were their same old selves after the delay, cruising to a 74-30 win over the Rapides Lady Mustangs to advance to the regional round yet again. Lake Arthur had an extremely quick turn around from game-to-game, as they did battle with Red River High School Monday afternoon at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. No. 14 Red River defeated No. 19 D’Arbonne Woods Charter Sunday afternoon to advance to take on the Lady Tigers for the chance to play in the quarterfinals. With the win, Lake Arthur was able to move their dazzling overall record to 27-4 on the season.
With last week’s historic winter weather finally out of the way, the LHSAA girls’ basketball playoff brackets finally started to get back on track over the weekend. With many games throughout the state being moved from their originally scheduled dates, the future for most parish teams were ironed out with games being played. Three Jeff Davis Parish (JDP) schools received opening-round byes because of their stellar play throughout the regular season, and were forced to sit and wait until other games could be decided.

The No.6 Jennings Lady Bulldogs took their first step in the Class 3A playoffs by defeating the Iowa Lady Jackets at Gaudet Gymnasium. Jennings will now await their second round opponent
