LACASSINE – The Lacassine Lady Cardinals (LHS) and Cardinals both avenged earlier losses to Midland Tuesday night by popping the Lady Rebels and Rebels in both contests. The Lady Cardinals dropped the Lady Rebels by a final of 63-47, while the Cardinals held off a late Rebel rally to claim a 56-50 victory.
BROUSSARD – The No. 2-ranked Hathaway Hornets (HHS) made the long trip to face Episcopal School of Acadiana (ESA) in a key 7-B contest and came away with a 63-43 thumping of the Falcons. The win moves the Hornets to 28-5 overall, 8-1 in district play.
GRAND LAKE – The No. 1 Elton Lady Indians moved one step closer to a district title Tuesday night as they erased an early Grand Lake lead to beat the Hornets 65-58 in a key 4-1A tilt. The Lady Indians are still locked in a tie for the 4-1A crown with Merryville, having split their meetings earlier in the season. With the win, the Lady Indians moved to 18-7 overall, 10-1 in 4-1A play. The No. 12 Lady Hornets dropped to 14-12, 6-5 in league play.
ELTON – The Elton High School football team may not have had one of their better seasons on the gridiron in 2019. However, they were rewarded for another reason on Friday by the Lake Charles Area Football Officials Association. The association annually hands out a Sportsmanship Award to the school that best exemplifies a number of topics inside what goes on throughout the football season. From behavior of players on the field, coaches on the sidelines, cooperation from administration and even the way fans treat the men in stripes. East Beauregard High School had won the award the past five seasons, but the Indians football squad but an end to that run this season. Head Coach Donnie Bruchhaus discussed what it means for his team to achieve this award and how it is more than just about what happens on Friday nights in between the white lines of a football field.

BATON ROUGE - An LSU football player has been suspended from the team indefinitely following his arrest on a gun possession charge.
HATHAWAY – The Hathaway High School (HHS) boys’ and girls’ basketball lineups put away the Lacassine High School (LHS) squads on Friday night at Charles F. Groth Gymnasium. The Hornets hit the bullseye against the Cardinals 65-45, while the Lady Hornets took out the Lady Cardinals 63-56, securing the girls as 7-B District Champions for the third year in a row.
LAFAYETTE – In a key battle for both teams to decide the district 6-2A champion, the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers (LA) and Tigers dropped a pair of tough decisions to Division III power Lafayette Christian Academy (LCA) Friday night. The Lady Tigers were topped by the Lady Knights by a final of 43-28, while the Tigers were beaten by the Knights by a count of 68-36. Both LCA squads sit with unbeaten records in district 6-2A, and are among the Top-3 in Division III of the nonselect school division.
