No. 19 Indians trip up Grand Lake, 41-36

GRAND LAKE — The Elton Indians picked up another win this week by edging past the Grand Lake Hornets by a final score of 41-36. The Indians made it five of their last six with the win and improved to 10-11 overall on the season. The Hornets fell to 14-11 overall with the loss. This gave the Indians sole possession of second place in the district standings behind undefeated Hamilton Christian. The Indians were back in action on Thursday night as they played the Sacred Heart Trojans in a non-district contest. The Indians currently sit at NO. 19 in the latest Division IV non-select power ratings, while Grand Lake was listed at No. 21.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur boys’ and girls’ basketball teams celebrated Senior Night Tuesday when they hosted their district rivals, the Welsh Greyhounds. In the girls’ game, the Lady Hounds took a 12-11 first period lead. However, the Lady Tigers would take a 28-22 halftime lead and roll on to their 69-36 win.

LAFAYETTE — The Lake Arthur boys and girls’ basketball teams traveled to play the Lafayette Renaissance Academy Tigers (LRA) in district play. The boys were looking to remain undefeated in the district competition. However, LRA would lead from start to finish, taking a 36-21 halftime lead and would go on to take a 73-52 win.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers picked up a big win over the Grand Lake Hornets this week by downing their guests 62-49. The Tigers placed four players in double figures in the win, with Zaiden Hagger leading the way with a team-high 13. Lake Arthur built a comfortable 31-16 lead at the halftime intermission then cruised to a 13-point victory in the second half. The win moves the Tigers out to 12-10 overall on the season and currently sit at No. 11 in the latest LHSAA Division IV Non-Select power ratings. Grand Lake dropped to 14-10 overall on the season with the loss.

Leblanc paces Indians past Oberlin, 45-31

ELTON — The Elton Indians picked up yet another victory this week by plowing through the Oberlin Tigers by a final of 45-31. The Indians have won four straight contests recently and moved their record to 9-10 overall on the season. Oberlin dropped to 1-22 on the year. The win moves the Indians to No. 20 in the latest LHSAA Division IV Non-Select power ratings. Senior guard Tristan Leblanc had yet another big night for the Indians by pouring in a game-high 18 points in the win. He was the only Indian player to hit double figures.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — No. 6 LSU (24-1, 9-1 SEC) will leave Columbia with their ninth SEC win of the season as the Tigers took down Missouri (1213, 1-9 SEC), 71-60, on Thursday night at the Mizzou Arena.

Leblanc, Lemoine guide Indians past Welsh

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds and Elton Indians met Monday in a Jeff Davis Parish clash at Greyhound Gymnasium. The Indians reeled off their third straight win by knocking off the Hounds by a final of 47-33. With the win, the Indians improve to 7-10 overall, while the Hounds fall to 6-11with the loss. The Indians jumped out to a ninepoint lead to open the game at the half then held on the rest of the way, outscoring the Hounds in all four frames. Tristan Leblanc and Makelin Lemoine led the Indians in the scoring column by accounting for 27 points combined. Leblanc was able to can 14, while Lemoine chipped in with his 13 in a winning cause.

Lady Cards hold on for big win over 5A Sam Houston

MOSS BLUFF — The Lacassine Lady Cardinals made the short drive over to Sam Houston High School on Monday to do battle with the 5A Lady Broncos. The Lady Cards came out victorious in the affair by claiming a 48-45 nailbiter. The win improves the Lacassine record to 9-12 overall, while Sam Houston fell to 9-17. The Lady Cards were back in action on Tuesday night when they travelled to take on a good Kinder Yellow Jackets squad in a non-district tilt. Addison Hollier had the hot hand for the Lady Cards in their win over Sam Houston by accounting for 19 tallies in the ball game.
