LAKE ARTHUR — The fans who attended the Welsh Greyhounds at the Lake Arthur Tigers basketball game got their money’s worth Friday night in “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. The district game between the two parish rivals had 23 lead changes and was tied 13 times. Welsh made a trey at the buzzer to tie the game 67 all and send it into overtime. Welsh led 76-74 with six seconds left, and the Tigers tying shot rimmed out to give the Hounds the key district win.

2024 PONY All-Star World Series set to take place July 9-14 in Youngsville. The Welsh 10U and 12U All-Star teams will be the first teams in the program’s history to advance to the World Series Championship.

CROWLEY — The Crowley Millers captured the District 7 Championship Wednesday night by defeating the Opelousas Indians by a final of 5-4 in a thrilling ball game. The win upped the Millers overall record to 13-4 and finished the league sweep of the Indians. The Millers will now set their sights on the state tournament held at “Tigue” Moore Field on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette starting July 13th.

Baseball, softball teams see success over the weekend

With the 2024 football season barreling down, area schools have released their football schedules for the upcoming season. The regular season will kick off on the first week of September and will continue all the way into the early days of November.
