CROWLEY — After suffering a pair of set backs over the weekend to the Southland Hogs and Lafayette Drillers, the Crowley Millers bounced back in a big way Tuesday night with a District 7 opening win over the talented Opelousas Indians by score of 16-6. The win leaves the Millers at 8-2 overall and the team was back in action Wednesday night against Beau Chene then travel to Shreveport to compete in the Benton High School Invitational. The Millers pounded out 11 hits in the win and used a gutsy start from Lon Paul Moody on the mound to earn the win. Jennings’ John Mason Futch came out of the bullpen and picked up two big outs to thwart an Opelousas threat in the top of the sixth inning. Moody went 5.1 innings and gave up six runs on nine hits and struck out five. Futch came on to face two hitters and earned a strikeout of his own to get out of a bases loaded jam.

BATON ROUGE — Seven members of LSU’s 2024 team will participate in the Major League Baseball Draft Combine, which will be held Tuesday through Sunday at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz.

CROWLEY — Despite trailing by as many as four runs early in the contest, the Crowley Millers rallied to over take the Acadian Wrecking Rams by a final score of 9-5 over the weekend. The win moved the Millers out to 6-0 on the season. Crowley played a pair of games in their Father’s Day Classic on Friday and Saturday. Check Friday’s edition to see results of the contests.

CROWLEY — A fast start wasn’t in the cards for the Crowley Millers in their first game of a doubleheader at Miller Stadium.

LAKE ARTHUR — Amateur MMA Fighter Vance “The Don” Shaw, continued his fighting dominance with a submission win at the 1:58 mark of the first round to take the Bayou FC Bantamweight Title. The win moves the former Lake Arthur graduate to a perfect 5-0. Shaw says a title defense this coming September in the CajunDome will allow him to turn pro and follow his dream of fighting in the UFC. “It usually takes six amateur fights before you can turn pro, and that is my dream and goal to fight pro in the BFC and ultimately the UFC.”
