“Once up on a time” is a phrase we all grew up hearing, typically in fairytales and folk tales. It has been used in some form since at least 1380 (according to the Oxford English Dictionary) and has been the opening line to tales since 1600. And, no, I haven’t been alive that long, but I have taught and read so many tales and so much literature to students.
