A Memorial Day ceremony was held at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on May 31. The American Legion Post 19 Honor Guard fired three volleys during the ceremony. The Honor Guard members included Tyler Schexnyder, Larry Guidry, Darrell Landry, Dennis Langley, Bill Caraway, Horace Naquin and Glenn McFarlain. There’s no denying the appeal of dairy in home cooking. Dairy helps make foods silky, creamy and more satisfying. Cheeses in particular can make meals more rich and more flavorful, so much so that they can be truly addictive.

As my cousin read aloud our Grandmother’s Brunswick Stew recipe, I enjoyed all the imagery it evoked, not to mention the aromatic recollection of that stew which was prepared with chicken, pork, tomatoes and corn in a turn-of-the-century kitchen that always smelled heavenly.

For more than a year, working from home and keeping social circles small due to COVID-19 has meant people have been able to spend more time with their pets. However, as more Americans are vaccinated and restrictions loosen across the country, it’s likely many are spending less time at home with their pets. As a result, pet parents should be prepared to spot the signs of separation anxiety and help their pets manage.
