In New York City, people smile at the first snowfall of the season and admire its ability to put a clean, fresh facade on a city which is often weary from all those tired, poor, huddled masses it originally invited and must now accommodate.

On average, someone in the United States dies from cardiovascular disease (CVD) every 36 seconds, approximately 2,380 deaths each day, according to the American Heart Association. Each day, 405 deaths occur in the U.S. as the result of strokes, an average of one death every 3:33. More people die annually from CVD than from any other cause including cancer, COPD, diabetes, lung infections and the flu, according to the American Heart Association (AHA) 2021 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics.

Guest speaker for the March 2021 meeting of the Jeff Davis Republican Women was State Rep. Troy Romero, who spoke to the club about his experiences and what he has learned as a freshman legislator, some of the issues that will soon be coming up in the legislature and some of the strengths and weaknesses he sees in Louisiana government.

Dr. James Dobson told the true story of an experiment performed by a high school teacher. During class a student excused himself from the room for a nature break. Knowing this would happen, the teacher told the rest of the class to give an incorrect answer when the excused student returned.
