Jeff Cook, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Jennings, spoke to members of the Jeff Davis Republican Women about a food bank ministry that the church has had for the last five years. They have partnered with Second Harvest to distribute nutritious groceries such as dry, canned and fresh produce. Approximately $70 worth of food is given out to the neediest of the needy each month, regardless of race, religion or background. They have 700 clients who currently qualify.

On Dec. 16, Richard Morgan (right), President of the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home Ancillary Committee, presented a plaque to James O. Hall Post 19 of the American Legion in Jennings in appreciation for the post allowing the committee to use the American Legion hall for committee meetings during the past nine months. Prior to March 2020 the Ancillary Committee had been meeting at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home. However, because of COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, the committee had to find another place to meet. The Ancillary Committee plans and conducts fundraising events to generate revenue in support of activities and projects beneficial to the home’s residents.
