In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a friend made me a beautiful, four-ply, tri-fold mask in shades of pink and green to cover my mouth and nose, protecting me from, well…you, and your droplets.

For nature lovers, perhaps nothing is more enjoyable than packing up the camping gear, traveling to a favorite campsite and getting away from it all while sleeping under the stars. Such an experience can be transformative, turning first-time campers into lifelong enthusiasts.

The Rotary Club of Welsh held its weekly meeting using Zoom on Thursday, May 28, with Dave Lejeune being the host. CEO for Royal Horizon Academy Sierra Tillman, along with Patrick Guillory and Shakera McKenzie (not pictured), spoke to the club about a summer program in Roanoke. Their aim is to bring the world of reading to kids, teach them how to have fun with math, spelling bees and various exercises.

Welsh resident Delores Derouen surprised retired USAF Lt. Col. Clarence Prudhomme with a handmade patriotic quilt. She personally delivered the quilt to Prudhomme’s home since the annual Memorial Day Celebration has been canceled. Each year she presents a veteran with a military quilt. Accompanying the gift was a beautiful untitled poem, which described the flag and expressed heartfelt thanks to all veterans. Submitted photo
