Ibought the green recipe file when I entered the ninth grade. It was a generic, metal file, necessary for home economics class. It probably cost less than a dollar at V. J. Elmore’s Five & Dime.

Jeff Davis Volunteers for Family and Community Domestic Divas visited the local James Ward Center of Excellence to surprise students with several fun rounds of bingo. The games were to reward the kindergarten through fifth and sixth through 12th grade students who earned points for good behavior, at a level set by the school for a whole month. Prizes were donated by the Domestic Divas. Some students won more than one game and the ones who didn’t win a round received a few treats before leaving.
As I typed up the details for an upcoming “marriage renewal” workshop, it occurred to me that the decision to marry comes with absolutely no mandatory instructions.
Knights of Columbus Council 2012 recently honored their own. Grand Knight Tommy Dennis awarded Toni Benoit with Knight of the Month, while Horace and Francis Naquin were named Family of the Month.

Union Baptist Church was delighted to welcome visitors and children who returned home for the Resurrection Sunday recently, said Rev. Gerald Perkins Sr. Among them was UBC’s own Dr. MacArthur Leon Baker, M.D., his wife, Robin Mitchell Baker, and their children, Saige, Uriah and Pierson.
