Items for Community Calendar must be submitted during regular weekday business hours at least two weeks prior to the day of the event. Events run in the order of their posted dates and ONLY AS SPACE ALLOWS. Events more than two weeks away may not run until closer to the event. Community Calendar is offered as a public service bulletin for Jeff Davis Parish community and non-profit events. Send entries to editor@jenningsdailynews.net. As we ride out this last stretch of summer, it’s time to start looking forward to fall gardening weather. There are some tasks to be handled this month. Here is a list of what to do in the garden and landscape this month and into September.

“It was years ago when the children and I went deep into our backyard to pick blackberries.
Area residents gathered under the Officer Shannon Brown Memorial Pavilion in Fenton for the first annual Shannon Brown Sauce Cook Off. Ten teams from Jeff Davis Parish and the surrounding communities, including “Chef Q” and “Chef David” of the Coushatta Casino Resort and Eric Johnson, Sr., competed to see who would named top sauce chef. The event was held in honor of fallen Fenton Police Officer Shannon Brown.
