ELTON — Officials here are adjusting their meeting procedures following a recent change to Louisiana law governing the public availability and adoption of government meeting minutes. During the council meeting, Attorney Michael Holmes explained the new requirements under Louisiana Revised Statute 42:20.1(B), which was amended during the most recent legislative session.

WELSH — Concern over speeding and heavy traffic near Willard and Floyd streets has prompted a Welsh resident to ask town officials to consider additional measures to improve safety in the area. Jake Simar brought the issue before town officials, saying he has become increasingly concerned about vehicles traveling through the area, particularly during the afternoon when school traffic is leaving.

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Board of Aldermen recently approved a salary increase for the town’s elected police chief after concerns were raised over the department’s spending in recent years and whether the current budget can absorb the additional cost.

WELSH — Residents received a closer look Thursday at a proposed Solugen chemical storage and distribution facility near Welsh as company representatives addressed questions ranging from chemical containment and fire protection to the location of the site and possible future expansion.

WELSH — Property owners here who allow their grass to grow too high will now pay more if the town is forced to send a crew to mow it. The Welsh Board of Aldermen approved Ordinance 859 this week, increasing the amount the town charges when it is forced to mow properties that are in violation of the town’s grass regulations.
