LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers used an impressive pitching performance and some fireworks on offense to claim a 10-0, mercy-ruke win over Class C Evans on Monday. With their third straight win, the Tigers improve to 17-10 overall.
LAKE ARTHUR – The No. 10-ranked Lake Arthur Lady Tigers took another step forward on Monday night by topping No. 23 Welsh 15-0 in the opening round of the Class 2A softball playoffs. The win upped the Lady Tigers’ overall mark to a dazzling 18-7, while Welsh ended their season at 10-14. Lake Arthur advances to play No. 7 Port Barre today at 4:30 on the road for the right to move on to the quarterfinals. The Red Devils defeated the Lady Tigers in their only district match-up of the season.
CROWLEY – The Jennings Bulldogs won a wild and crazy, back-and-forth contest over the Kinder Yellow Jackets Friday night by a final of 13-10 at Miller Stadium in Crowley. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Kinder, however it was moved to the newly artificially turfed Miller Stadium do to heavy rains. The win upped the Bulldogs’ overall record to 11-15, and has them sitting at No. 13 in the latest 3A power ratings according to geauxpreps.com.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association announced their annual Softball playoff pairings for the 2021 season late Friday afternoon. As expected, all four softball-playing schools in Jeff Davis Parish saw their names called when the brackets were released. Jennings High School, Lake Arthur High School, Welsh High School and Lacassine High School all earned berths in their respective classifications.
For their final home match and senior night, the Jennings High School Tennis Team recently played against Welsh High School on April 15th. The Lady Bulldogs added another win to their record , and the boys tied overall. Senior Logan Mier competed against Hank Son nier and won with a score of 8-3. Mier says, “I was really excited about this big win against Welsh. I played well and I’m hoping to play the same in regionals and state.” Senior Tidus Kieser and Michael O’Brien beat Trevor Miller and Tyler Conner with a final score of 8-4. Tylon Thibodeaux came extremely close to winning with a score of 8-9 against Conner. Finally, Mier and O’Brien fought hard in a doubles match against Gentry Pousson and Sonnier resulting in a score of 4-8. On the girls side, senior Morgan Futch played a very strong singles match against Catherine Watkins and won with a score of 8-1. Jill Fontenot and senior Addison Vanhook claimed a victory in a doubles match against Mia Richard and Lana Krielow by shutting them out with a score of 8-0. Olivia Vanhook and Julia O’Brien also won with a score of 8-0 against Phoebe Boudreaux and Catherine Watkins.
