WELSH – The Welsh Greyhounds dropped the hammer on the Mamou Green Demons here at Sportsman’s Park by winning a mercy-rule contest by a count of 13-0. The win upped the Hounds overall record to 7-13 as they continue to push towards the Class 2A playoffs. The Hounds used a huge 10-run fourth inning to slam the door on the visiting Demons, while Jode Janise was the story of the game on the mound for Welsh. The right-hander fired five innings and only allowed two hits in completing the shutout. He also struck out three in the win.
GRAND LAKE – The Lacassine Lady Cardinals softball team had a rough go of it Wednesday as the Bell City Bruins swept both ends of a district doubleheader. The pair of wins allowed the Bruins to ultimately claim the 7-B title. Bell City claimed a 6-4 win in the first contest then came from behind to win the second one by a count of 10-3. Lacassine fell to 11-10 overall, and will have another shot at the Bruins today at home.
BATON ROUGE – The No. 4 LSU women’s golf team won the LSU Tiger Golf Classic with a 54-hole score of 12-under 852, Wednesday at the University Club Golf Course.
BATON ROUGE – LSU Gymnastics head coach Jay Cark has been named the Region 1 Coach of the Year, the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) announced Wednesday.
The Jennings Bulldogs made it a clean sweep over the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers here Tuesday night as they pounded their guests by a final of 19-3. The Dogs had defeated LCCP in their first district meeting last week by a final of 11-1. With the win, the Dogs move to 9-12 overall, 2-4 in district 4-3A play. Jennings will now welcome in No.1 South Beauregard in for a district contest set for tonight at 6pm at Bulldog Diamond.
The visiting South Beauregard Lady Golden Knights lived up to their No.8 ranking as they defeated the Jennings Lady Dogs 16-2 Tuesday.
BATON ROUGE – Third baseman Cade Doughty doubled twice and drove in four runs Tuesday night, while seven LSU pitchers limited McNeese State to one run as the Tigers posted a 14-1 win over the Cowboys in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.
The Jennings Lady Bulldogs Softball team turned a close game into an 11-1 win against the visiting Class 1A Grand Lake Lady Hornets Monday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Jennings.
LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers built an early 5-0 lead over the Crowley Gents, and held off a late surge to claim a 5-3 win here at Dickie Chapman Memorial Complex. With the win, the Tigers moved to 12-8 overall on the season and welcomed in district foe Lafayette Christian in on Tuesday for a 6-2A contest.
