WELSH – The Welsh Greyhounds used a 7-run outburst in the fourth inning last week to claim a 7-2 win over the Eunice Bobcats in a non-district clash at Sportsman’s Park. The Hounds also got a huge lift from junior Cale Navarre on the mound, as the right-hander tossed six in nings of 5-hit ball. Jode Janise came in and finished things off on the mound in the seventh by throwing a clean slate to leave the Greyhounds with a big win.
HOUSTON (AP) — Lonzo Ball had 27 points and a career-high eight 3-pointers, and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Houston Rockets 122-115 on Sunday night to end a two-game skid.
Rice City Gymnastics had 12 of their gymnasts in Xcel Silver and Gold compete at the upper-level state meet in Westwego, last weekend. Of these 12, nine gymnasts qualified to advance on to the regional competition, where Louisiana will compete against all other southeastern states of the United States. In each level, Louisiana chooses the top eight gymnasts to represent the state team in the regional competition. Rice City Gymnastics had two of their gymnasts selected to represent Team Louisiana in Xcel Silver. These gymnasts were Addison Toups and Brooklyn Bellon, the latter of which was ranked No.1 in the state for Xcel Silver. Both Bellon and Toups are from Iota, and will move on to the Regional Competition.
On Friday, March 26, the Jennings High School took on Alexandria Senior High School for the second time this season away. Overall, the Lady Bulldogs tied, coming very close to adding another victory to their record. Morgan Futch beat Amelia Marlowe scoring 8-5, while Addison Vanhook and Jill Fontenot competed against Grace Blackman and Ava Hankins winning at 8-2. Lastly, Olivia Vanhook and Julia O’Brien played against Julia Harrington and Avery Hankins, also almost completely shutting them out with a final score of 8-2. On the boys side, Logan Mier took on Sahil Akbar in singles and won with an astounding score of 8-1. Tidus Keiser and Michael O’Brien played hard against Juan Colorado and Jackson Rubin and had a final score of 4-8.

CADE - Just a day after defeating ESA via the 10-run rule in a district 7-B contest, the Lacassine Cardinals proved they could win in a close contest as well. The two teams went at each other in the second of two district match-up’s and found themselves in a pitcher’s dual that carried into extra innings. Ultimately, it was Cardinal ace Jace Bageux and his club that scratched across a run in the top of the eighth inning to win 1-0. After the Cardinals plated the run in the top of the eighth that broke a 0-0 ball game, the junior right-hander struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth to complete the league sweep of the Falcons.
CROWLEY - The Welsh Lady Greyhounds were back in action on Tuesday evening, and traveled down I-10 to Crowley to take on the Crowley Ladies. The Lady Hounds made the trip well worth it, and blasted their 3A opponent by a final of 20-1. The win upped Welsh’s overall mark to 10-8.
LAKE ARTHUR Landen Broussard and Cale Navarre combined to throw seven innings of no-hit baseball to earn the Welsh Greyhounds an 11-3 district 6-2A win over the Lake Arthur Tigers. The Hounds also pounded out nine hits in their victory. Broussard earned the victory on the mound by tossing four innings, allowed three runs on no hits and struck out seven. Navarre came in for the final three frames and didn’t allow a run or a hit and fanned five.
