The Lacassine Cardinals opened district 7-B baseball action Monday by throttling Episcopal School of Acadiana (ESA) by a final of 14-4 at Legion Field in Jennings. The Cards pounded out 15 hits in the mercy-rule win that ended in the sixth, and rode the strong outing of senior Conner McKay on the mound. The Cardinals improved to 7-6 overall, and played ESA once again on Tuesday in a league game moved up due to the chance of possible weather today.

What started out as a manic Monday ended up as a good day at the ballpark as the Jennings Lady Dogs Softball team defeated Gueydan 17-7 Monday evening.

LAKE ARTHUR - The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 9-0 lead over district rival Welsh Monday night at Dickie Chapman Memorial Complex, then staved off a furious Lady Hounds’ rally in the seventh inning to preserve a 9-5 league win. With the win, Lake Arthur pushed their overall record to 14-3, 1-0 in 6-2 play. Welsh dropped to 9-8 overall, 0-1 in 6-2A.

The Jennings Lady Bulldogs played a pair of games at the Welsh Tournament over the weekend and picked up a win 22-6 win over Crowley and lost a 4-2 contest to Pickering. Jennings was back in action on Monday when they hosted Gueydan in a non-district tilt, and will also welcome in district foe Iowa to town today for a league match-up. First-pitch for both games is set for 5 p.m. from the Lady Bulldog Softball Complex.

WELSH -The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers’ (LA) softball team continued to roll over the weekend as they grabbed a 3-game sweep at the Welsh High School Tournament at Sportsman’s Park The No. 9-ranked Lady Tigers upped their sparkling overall mark to 13-3 overall with a 10-0 win over East Beauregard, a 14-4 victory over Vinton and 10-4 win over Pickering. The Lady Tigers have a busy week scheduled, as they welcomed in Welsh Monday for a district dash and travel to 6-2A power Notre Dame on Wednesday. LA will turn around and hit the road Thursday to do battle with St. Edmund in Eunice and then welcome in Jennings to Dicky Chapman Complex in Lake Arthur on Saturday.

WELSH - The Welsh Lady Greyhounds took two-of-three games in their Welsh High School Softball Tournament over the weekend by blasting Vinton 17-1, thumping East Beauregard 14-8, but dropped a heart breaker to Crowley by a count of 10-9.

LAKE CHARLES – Trailing 9-4 heading into the top of the fifth inning, things appeared pretty bleak for the Jennings Lady Bulldogs in their district 4-3A match-up with the St. Louis Lady Saints. However, that’s where things got interesting as the Lady Dogs put up a 6-spot of their own to take a 10-9 lead. The two teams would each score two runs over the next two innings, but the Jennings defense held the Lady Saints in the bottom of the eighth to preserve a 12-11 district 4-3A win. Jennings improves to 9-8 overall, but are 2-0 in league play so far.
