Former Jennings High School and Clemson University running back Travis Etienne, Jr. had quite the Pro Day recently, staking his claim as the top running back in the Draft Class of 2021. WELSH – The Welsh Greyhounds picked up a close win over the Crowley Gents at home on Monday by a final score of 5-2 at Sportsman’s Park. Senior Landon Broussard was the story of the game for the Hounds, as he went the distance on the mound and earned the win. Broussard allowed only two runs on six hits and fanned 11 Crowley hitters in the victory. Fellow senior Austin Van Ness led the nine-hit attack of the Greyhounds by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Welsh never trailed in the contest, and allowed Crowley to single runs in the second and third frames.

After spotting the Westlake Rams a 3-run lead in the top of first inning, the Lacassine Lady Cardinals dominated their guests by pouring on 14 runs over the span of four innings to claim a 13-3 run-rule victory to move their record to .500 at 6-6. Breanna Talbot got the win in the circle for the Lady Cards by spinning five innings and allowing three runs on only a pair of hits and fanned six. Sydnie Cooley, Giselle Fuentes and Taylor Talbot did most of the damage for the Lacassine offense by combining to go 10-for-11 at the plate. In all, the Lacassine offense smacked out 16 hits off of Lady Ram pitching in the win.

Almost exactly a year ago from now, the Jennings High School tennis team had an abrupt end to their season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Once school began again, the Bulldogs were finally able to return to the courts in late August. However, LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) guidelines restricted most practices, and the team did not play nearly as much as usuaL Nevertheless, the players stayed dedicated and determined to practice. Now halfway through their season, the Lady Bulldogs show much promise for the future with an almost perfect record of 8-1. The girls have kicked off the season by beating Alexandria Senior High School , Teurlings Catholic High School, St. Louis Catholic High School, Lafayette Christian Academy, New Iberia Catholic High School, DeRidder High School, and Eunice High School.

The Jennings Bulldogs kicked off their annual Tournament on Thursday by defeating Jeff Davis Parish rival Welsh by a final of 7-4 at Bulldog Diamond. The win upped Jennings to 5-4 overall on the season, while Welsh fell to 1-9. The Bulldogs broke open a 3-3 ball game in the bottom of the fifth with four runs and staved off a Greyhound rally in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 3-run victory.
