The late veteran and Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery Director Dwayne Guidry was laid to rest this week in the cemetery that meant so much to him. Surrounded by family, friends and fellow veterans, Guidry was given a full military funeral. He was the epitome of what it means to selflessly sacrifice for the freedom of this country and serve others with unwavering dedication. Guidry’s military career spanned 26 years of service, in which he served in the Louisiana Army National Guard and in active duty with the Army, taking part in three combat tours.

Each member left services with a cross of ashes on their forehead made from blessed palm branches – a practice that dates back to eighth-century Roman Catholic practices.
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury added a resolution supporting local option authority regarding carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities to its upcoming agenda. The resolution joins other parish police juries in Southwest Louisiana seeking more local authority to approve or deny carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration activity in parishes due to concerns over water contamination risks and seizure of private property rights.
LAKE ARTHUR — The town council has accepted a bid for the demolition of 24 blighted properties, funded by a $250,000 clearance grant aimed at improving the appearance and safety of the town.
