Lawmakers emphasize transparency amid rising auto rates

Drug prevention program fills gap
Area youth received vital information on preventing alcohol and drug addiction this week. Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury heard updates from District Attorney Lauren Heinen on the jointcoalition drug prevention program introduced in parish schools last year and the continued program this year. The program includes multiple presentations by Speak Sobriety Founder Stephen Hill. Heinen said the program is filling an educational gap that previously existed.

Pesticide applicator recertification rescheduled
LSU AgCenter of Jeff Davis Parish offers private pesticide applicator training and recertification classes at the beginning of each year. Due to the recent winter storm, one of the classes set to be held in Jennings had to be rescheduled. The class originally set for Jan. 21 has been moved to Monday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. until noon, in the JDP LSU AgCenter office at 1006 South Lake Arthur Ave., next to the fairgrounds.
WFD to purchase new rescue unit
WELSH — Welsh Fire Chief John Hall is planning to purchase a new fire rescue truck that will benefit the residents of Welsh and the surrounding areas.
