(The Center Square) — The U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary’s Subcommittee on the Constitution met on Wednesday to discuss the subject of protecting America’s citizenship, considering America’s 250th anniversary.

Students from Jeff Davis Parish traveled to McNeese State University to visit the school’s Radiologic Science program. AgCenter debuts two promising new varieties

CROWLEY — New varieties are one of the best ways farmers can stay ahead of the many challenges that come with growing rice. Next year, they’ll be able to plant two fresh releases from the LSU AgCenter that address key disease and grain quality issues. The varieties — Suivant and LA22-1082 — were unveiled June 24 at the 117th annual field day at the AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station near Crowley. Attendees of the event got to head into the field with scientists to see variety development plots firsthand and to hear presentations on other facets of rice production and research.

FEMA awards $900,000 for Lake Arthur upgrades

LAKE ARTHUR — A nearly three-year wait has paid off for the Town of Lake Arthur after the Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded approximately $900,000 to modernize one of the town’s primary flood control pump stations. The funding, awarded through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, will allow the town to automate one of its existing stormwater pumps, replacing a manually operated diesel system with an electric pump capable of activating automatically as water levels rise.
